Travel Eats: Gettin’ Piggy with It

Travelogue

Where: Cumberland, MD

Why: Business, antiquing and getting crabby

Ahoy!

The subtitle to this piece could be called, “When Crabby is a Good Thing,” as I tasted my very first Maryland crab — in Maryland proper — in a delicious Maryland Crab soup.  It immediately transformed Famished Holly into a decidedly un-crabby human, one fit to be seen in public.  This proved to delight my waitress, who no doubt knew that her tip, and possibly her sanity, were on the line.
And I ate that wearing all white. CLICK HERE FOR PIX, THE RECIPE AND GLIMPSE AT WHAT MRS. BEAVER MIGHT HAVE CHOSEN HAD SHE VISITED CUMBERLAND.

Happy 267th Birthday, Thomas Jefferson!  You’re looking so…liberated.  Sorry about going so picture-crazy at your house the other day.  And for clutchin’ on your columns. Alright.  Time for Part Two on How Jefferson Kept his Mojo:  Jefferson was 6’2″ and, as at least one Monticello tour guide describes him, “straight as a gun barrel.”  He [...]

Warning:  I’ve long been a Colonial history buff, and an especially ardent Jeffersonophile.  Now that I live in a region that affords gloriously unfettered access to such felicities as Monticello, you’ll be seeing similar posts to this one with increasing frequency.  Hooray! It’s Thomas Jefferson’s birthday tomorrow, and to celebrate, we’re going to Monticello! Actually, [...]

Get Going ~ Where the Health to Eat this Week

It’s that time of the week again: today, we talk to the chef and owner of the very first restaurant I included in Healthy Eats Here! His food is sophisticated and down-home at the same time, and I never leave disappointed.  Oh, and there’s bacon.  Which you can make at home.  Correction: which your five-year-old [...]
